Robotics expert Rodney Brooks warns that the AI industry will soon enter a winter period

Recently Rodney Brooks, a renowned robotics expert, sent out a message about theartificial intelligence (AI)industry's warning. He noted thatartificial intelligence (AI)The industry is currently at the peak of the "hype cycle" and may soon enter the so-called "winter period".

While AI has made significant strides in recent years, Brooks believes it's still just one hype cycle in a 60-plus year history. He predicts that the industry could stagnate over the next few years until the next major breakthrough comes along.

In looking to the future, Brooks said that the next generation of generalized AI may have to wait until after 2048. He believes that creating a robot as smart as a dog is still a far-fetched goal at this point. This means that it will be quite some time before the AI industry makes a real breakthrough.

Brooks' warning reminds us that while the field of AI is full of promise and potential, we cannot ignore the realities of its development. These include technical challenges, lack of financial investment, moral and ethical issues, and public awareness and acceptance of AI.

Therefore, enterprises and researchers in the industry need to pay more attention to basic research and technological innovation in order to promote the long-term development of AI. At the same time, governments, enterprises and related organizations need to strengthen cooperation to jointly address the challenges and problems in the development of AI.

Only then can we ensure that the AI industry can continue to grow in a sustainable and healthy manner and ultimately realize its enormous potential.
