OpenAI seeks hardware and software co-design engineers to work with vendors to customize AI hardware

According to Data Center Dynamics, in order to get the right amount ofAI hardware(math.) genusOpenAIis actively recruiting hardware and software co-design engineers. This initiative demonstrates thatOpenAIis working to work closely with external vendors to design and develop machine learning, kernel engineering, compiler optimization, and other requirements for theirAIHardware.

This hardware/software co-design engineer position is based in San Francisco, CA and will work closely with OpenAI's team of hardware engineers. Internally, they will need to gain a deep understanding of the needs and vision of the machine learning engineers, kernel engineers, and compiler developers within OpenAI to ensure that the AI hardware designed can efficiently support machine learning techniques, algorithms, numerical approximations, programming expressiveness, and compiler optimizations.

Externally, the position will need to work closely with multiple external vendors to achieve performance and programmability goals for AI hardware. They will need to collaborate with third parties to develop optimal kernels and add relevant support in the OpenAI compiler. Ultimately, they will also need to estimate the performance of key kernels for different hardware configurations to ensure that the designed AI hardware meets the real-world requirements of OpenAI.

In order to be qualified for this position, OpenAI has high requirements for candidates. They need to have extensive experience using AI gas pedals such as GPUs and related programming languages, and experience using low-precision formats to improve machine learning accuracy.

This recruiting initiative reflects OpenAI's focus on AI hardware and demonstrates their commitment to pushing theartificial intelligence (AI)The determination to develop in the field. By partnering with external vendors, OpenAI is expected to obtain AI hardware that better meets its needs, thus further advancing its research and application in the field of artificial intelligence.
