NVIDIA sued for damages by fiction author for using copyrighted work to train AI

Recently.NVIDIA, computer graphics card companybecause ofAIPlatform NeMo is being sued by a class of three fiction authors over the alleged use of copyrighted works in its training process. The plaintiffs, who include Brian Keene, Abdi Nazemian and Stewart O'Nan, claim that their work was included in a dataset used by NVIDIA to simulate ordinary written language, which contained some 196,640 books. The dataset was taken down last October after reports of copyright infringement.

The plaintiffs say that NVIDIA's removal of the dataset is effectively a tacit admission of its use of the copyrighted work, and they are therefore seeking damages from NVIDIA for copyright infringement. The exact amount of damages has not yet been announced.

The case has sparked a public outcry overartificial intelligence (AI)concerns about copyright issues in the training process.
