Gartner predicts significant growth in AI PC and smartphone shipments by 2024

Gartner, the world's leading market research organization, recently released a compelling report predicting thatAIPersonal computers (AI PCs) and generative AI smartphones are set to see a staggering increase in shipments in the coming year. According to the agency, it expects shipments to be around 29 million units in 2023, while by 2024, the number will soar to 295 million units, a whopping 9,17% rise.

This report defines generative AI smartphones as those equipped with advanced hardware and software features that enable the phone to seamlessly integrate and efficiently execute applications and tasks powered by generative AI (GenAI). These phones are not only capable of running basicartificial intelligence (AI)models, and also fine-tune the models to generate new and derived content, strategies, designs, and methods. For example, Google's Gemini Nano, Baidu's Wenxin ERNIE, and the OpenAI GPT-4, etc. fall into this category.

Gartner further predicts that by the end of 2024, shipments of generative AI smartphones will reach a staggering 240 million units, accounting for 22% of all smartphone shipments worldwide.Meanwhile, shipments of AI personal computers will reach 54.5 million units, accounting for 22% of all personal computer shipments.

This forecast not only highlights the trend of AI technology's popularity in consumer electronics, but also reflects the market's continued demand for efficient, smart devices. This trend is expected to continue in the coming years as technology continues to advance and consumer demand for smarter, more convenient devices increases.
