U.S. Commerce Secretary Raimondo said the U.S. Department of Commerce needs more money to stop China from catching up in cutting-edge semiconductors and claimed that any restrictions on China aimed at circumventing theAI chipAll will be banned from export.
Speaking at the Reagan Defense Forum in Simi Valley, California, Raimondo said, "We can't let China get these chips. We have to stop them from getting our most sophisticated technology. I know that when I do that, some of the CEOs of the chip companies in the audience have a problem with me because there's a loss of revenue. But protecting our national security is more important than short-term revenue."
She called on the U.S. Congress to provide more funding to the Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security to accomplish this goal. She said, "I have a $200 million budget (for the program). That's (only) equivalent to the cost of a couple of warplanes. Please, if we're serious, let's fund this operation the way it needs to be funded."
In addition, Raimondo also named NVIDIA, a well-known U.S. chip company rumored to be "designing chips for the Chinese market," claiming that if the company took some measures to redesign a chip that would allow China to implement a "chip for the Chinese market," the company would be able to design a chip for the Chinese market.artificial intelligence (AI)project, "I would have taken control measures the next day."
She emphasized the need to be vigilant against threats when it comes to national security and said that communication with China helps stabilize relations between the two countries.
