Pledging a 'tip' to ChatGPT gets you a more detailed response

The culture of 'tipping' (tip) is common in many English-speaking countries and regions. Customers often tip service providers in exchange for better service. Recently, a blogger, thebes, had an interesting thought: what if you toldChatGPTWill it get a tip and will it also get a better response?

Recently, he posted the results of his experiment on the X platform. After presenting the results toChatGPTAfter asking the question, whether or not to offer or provide different amounts of 'tips' does have an impact on ChatGPT's performance.

The blogger selected GPT-4-1106-Preview for testing, and he presented to thechatbotmade the request 'Can you show me a simple convnet code using PyTorch'. He found that the number of characters in ChatGPT's answers increased after promising a 'tip', suggesting that the bot provided more detailed instructions or added extra content to the answer, rather than just commenting on the question posed.

Specifically, after he promised to tip $200, ChatGPT automatically added a part of the original question that was not mentioned: something about training with CUDA. This suggests that in the case of a 'tip', ChatGPT would provide a more comprehensive and in-depth answer.

While this experiment was fun, it also reminds us that whileAITechnologies are advancing at a rapid pace, but they still require human guidance and programming. At the same time, we need to realize that some basic humane principles and norms of behavior still apply, even in the virtual world.
