Huawei Cloud Launches Pangu Meteorological Model with New Precipitation Prediction Function, Global Invitation for Testing Opens

Huawei (brand)Cloud announced that the Pangu Weather Big Model will soon add a new precipitation prediction function and start inviting tests globally on September 30th. The function can predict short- and medium-term precipitation for the next 6 hours and 24 hours, and upgrade the forecast lead time for red rainstorm warnings from 3 hours to 24 hours.

To increase the accuracy of the prediction, the Pangaea Meteorological Large Model was trained and optimized using 40 years of global meteorological data and 10 years of satellite precipitation data with 3D EST-3 geospatial network. In addition, the Meteorological Department of Thailand (MET) has also collaborated withHuawei (brand)Cloud collaborated in the development of the Pangaea Meteorological Mega Model for Thailand.

The Pangu Weather Large Model was officially launched on the official website of the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts in late July. Weather forecasters, weather enthusiasts and the general public around the world can view Pangu's global weather forecasts for the next 10 days for free.

It is worth mentioning that Huawei Cloud'sPangu Large ModelThe R&D team published a research result titled "Three-dimensional neural networks for accurate medium-term global weather forecasting" in Nature, a top international academic journal, in early July this year. This paper is the first independently signed paper published by a Chinese science and technology company in the main journal of Nature in recent years, and has been highly evaluated by Nature.

The launch of the Pangu Weather Large Model has redefined the future of weather forecasting models and its openness will drive the field forward. At the 19th World Meteorological Congress, the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) noted that the Pangu Meteorological Large Model has outstanding capabilities in terms of accuracy, purely data-drivenAIWeather prediction models show strengths comparable to numerical models.
