Google unveils fifth-generation AI chip: train and run AI models 5x faster

Google at its annual cloud computing conference Google Internet company Cloud Next has launched a newartificial intelligence (AI)TPU v5e, a fifth-generation customized tensor processor (TPU) chip designed for training and inference of medium- to large-sized models, which delivers up to 2x faster training and up to 2.5x faster inference.

The higher performance and lower cost of the TPU v5e compared to previous TPU chips also makes it more suitable for training and running complex deep learning models that require large amounts of matrix computation, such as large language models, protein folding modeling, and drug discovery.

TPU is Google's specialized chip designed for neural networks, and has evolved to its fifth generation since the launch of the first generation TPU in 2016. The launch of TPU v5e will further enhance Google's competitiveness in AI and provide organizations with more efficient and cost-effective AI Solution.
